So I've finally taken the leap, my first blog post.
We've all heard that Social Media marketing is good for business. Also we know people are tending to favour social networking and information found on the internet over the traditional print, TV and radio campaigns. It has been said that peer endorsements are at least three times more credible to prospective buyers than advertisements.
My latest social media epiphany is: "Networking is about meeting people, not about building relationships or making money." Social media sites are just a venue for meeting people. The relationships and making money can follow as a consequence of meeting people.
Like any place of initial social engagement, on social media sites we start getting to know each other and start interacting. Social networking sites are so much more superior than other venues in this regard: They are always available, people publish all the information they want known without us having to ask, it is easy to broadcast and hear about updates and it is easy to leverage on the networks of others. Like other social venues, it is also inappropriate etiquette to overtly tout business or troll for leads.
Given that there is a market for a product or service, we know that people generally feel more comfortable purchasing from a person they have come to like, or been referred to. To drive up business (in the physical world or the internet) we need to become that person. A first step to becoming that person is creating and nurturing our individual personal brand.
Stay tuned for more on creating a brand and being that person from whom people want to buy.
